Japan Living Cost Calculator
- Living expenses, rent, taxes, etc.

If you're planning to live alone in Japan,
use this tool to calculate your living expenses, rent, etc.,
based on your monthly income after taxes.

This living cost calculator is for non-student, locally-hired salaried employees of typical Japanese companies living alone in the city center (with an estimated annual income of 2.5 million yen to 6 million yen).
More specifically, this calculation is for people who want to live in a safe and convenient commuting area, even if the rent is a little high. We believe the target audience will mainly be women.
This calculation also assumes that you don't require a car, have no dependents, and don't have to pay for education.

Net salary or gross salary?
Whenever possible, we suggest making calculations on a "net salary" basis. This is because, in Japan, social insurance premiums and taxes are deducted from the salaries that companies pay to their employees. The net amount is then transferred to the employee's designated bank account.

"Net": The amount actually transferred from your salary after taxes and social insurance premiums are deducted. (If you have paid any transportation expenses, please exclude them when entering the amount).
“Gross”: The contract amount. This is listed in the job information.
If you enter a gross value, the calculation will be based on an approximate net amount. (If you are in your first year with the company, your taxes, net salary, etc., may be different from the calculations.)
